Coastal Humane Society and Lincoln County Animal Shelter Seek Homes for the Holidays

The Coastal Humane Society of Brunswick and Lincoln County Animal Shelter of Edgecomb are looking for Homes for the Holidays for two special groups of animals rescued from overcrowded facilities in Magee Mississippi, and Blairesville, Georgia.

The shelters will be rescuing over 80 mixed-breed puppies, dogs, and kittens throughout December and hope they will all be home by Christmas. Both locations are hosting mega Home for the Holidays adoption events on Saturday, December 10, and Saturday, December 17, the days the rescued puppies will be going up for adoption.

Coastal Humane Society (Range Road in Brunswick) opens at noon for adoptions, and Lincoln County Animal Shelter (Atlantic Highway in Edgecomb) opens at 11 a.m. (For complete hours, please see their websites.)

Staff and volunteers will make special Christmas Day deliveries of any adopted pets as Santa or one of his elves for an additional cost. All proceeds from the deliveries will go to the care of shelter animals.

Coastal Humane and Lincoln County will also hold animals through Christmas Eve, but to limit the amount of time the animals are in the facilities, the shelter will hold animals beginning December 17th or later.

A new pet is a wonderful addition to a family for the holidays, but the organization cautions that pets are not for gifts outside the family. An animal intended as a gift should be under the direct care of the person choosing the animal, or, in other words, the adopter must be one of the primary caregivers of the animal. Otherwise the pet could given to someone who doesn’t necessarily want a pet or to someone who isn’t prepared to own a pet.

As an alternative, both shelters offer gift certificates that can be used toward adoption.

Shelter officials also note that new pets should be introduced to a calm environment as they adjust to their new homes.

Preview albums featuring photos of the rescued animals with ages and breeds will be posted to the shelters’ Facebook pages 3-4 days before each Home for the Holidays adoption event.
